Quesnel Boots and Toques festival planned for Feb. 25

The annual festival will be at the West Fraser Centre

The West Fraser Centre will be buzzing with activity on Friday, Feb. 25, as the city hosts their annual Boots and Toques festival.

Free public skating will be accompanied by vendors of all kinds, with fireworks planned for 6:30 p.m., best viewed from LeBourdais Park.

“It’s just an all around nice time,” Tarin Lefebvre, the city’s recreation coordinator said.

“It should be fairly fun. It’s pretty short though, only two-and-a-half hours.”

The Quesnel Arts Council will be on hand making the titular toques.

The event will take place starting at 4 p.m. at the West Fraser Centre. Proof of vaccination will be required, and the building will be at 50 per cent capacity (600 people). Fifty people are allowed on the ice surface at a time.

“It’s nice that we’re able to run it,” Lefebvre said.

“We’ve had a lot of discussion on our end whether we should be running it a COVID-time, although we are following public health orders, but we’ve had the go-ahead for it. We’re going to do the best we possibly can.”

Lefebvre said the city watched how the Quesnel Kangaroos handled vaccine checking at entrances to the West Fraser Centre as an example to follow.
