More than a dozen Quesnel-area organizations received funding at the Quesnel Community Foundation’s (QCF) 2022 Grant Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 21.
The foundation gave out $105,000 to 13 non-profit groups, the most money given out in QCF history.
Outgoing president Mary Sjostrom spoke before the ceremony.
“I just can’t say how proud I am to be part of this legacy,” Sjostrom said.
Sandra May Lewis and Bob Salmon, the chairs of the grant committee presented cheques to the 13 groups at the Billy Barker Casino banquet hall. It was the first time the QCF has held an in-person ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Receiving grants were: The North Cariboo Seniors’ Council meal delivery program.
The Quesnel Festival of the Performing Arts for their 40th annual festival.
The Lightning Creek Ski Club for radio equipment and training.
The Quesnel Legion for the Legion Beach accessible dock.
The Cariboo Ski Touring Club for competition equipment.
The Quesnel and District Hospital and Palliative Care for remote control reclining chairs.
The Literacy Quesnel Society for Bookstore Shelving.
The North Cariboo Christian School Society for community basketball hoops.
The Quesnel Technics Gymnastics Club for therapeutic and safety equipment.
The Baker Creek Enhancement Society received the $2,000 Holger Bauer Award for a community gardening and composting centre.
The Quesnel Pickleball Club for court lighting to allow for nighttime play.
The Kersley Community Association for arena concession renovation.
The Quesnel Rodeo Club for ticket booth construction.
The Quesnel Community Foundation’s endowment fund, which was established in 2000 after the BC Winter Games, has reached around $4 million. The money the fund generates through investment is given out as grants, while community fundraising adds to the fund.
Since beginning, they have given out more than $900,000 to local projects
The foundation will also be awarding $16,000 in scholarships in 2022.
