Quesnel council recently honoured a long-time employee known for his basketball skills and his dedication.

Nirmal Lidder received a certificate and a gift from council Oct. 6 to thank him for his years of service and congratulate him on his upcoming retirement.

Lidder started working for the City of Quesnel in June 1986 as a labourer.

“He has operated a number of the Public Works equipment over the years, such as gravel truck and loaders,” said Acting Mayor Laurey-Anne Roodenburg. “Nirmal bid into a sub-foreman equipment operation position in May of 2013, taking on a leadership role. He was not only known for his amazing basketball free throw skills during lunch break back in the day, but was also very dependable and always ready to help out when needed.”

Lidder will be retiring Oct. 30 after 34-plus years of dedicated service.
