Hilary Erlebach made the jump from driver to dispatch in November of 2019, after a Quesnel dispatcher was injured.
It’s been a pretty successful transition, as Erlebach was named one of BC Transit’s “Superstars” for 2020.
“Hilary had already established an excellent reputation for being available to help with shift coverage and other duties with little notice and immediately agreed to step into the dispatch role,” a biography on BC Transit’s website reads. “At the time, it was unclear how long she would be covering, but it turned out to be for a long period of time. She’s still doing it!”
Erlebach is one of six workers who were honoured by BC Transit across the province.
“These people are the lifeblood of public transportation in BC Transit communities, and it’s our pleasure to honour them as Transit Superstars,” said Tim Croyle, chief operating officer for BC Transit. “They go above and beyond every day to make a difference with customers and co-workers in their communities.”
BC Transit recognizes workers every year who meet one of their core values. For Erlebach, it was teamwork.
“Hilary’s experience as a driver and knowledge of the transit system have been tremendous assets in her role, and her demeanor is positive and reassuring at all times,” Erlebach’s biography reads. “This has been a critical asset with implementation of COVID-19 procedures, as she provides clarification for the operators and information for customers in Quesnel.”
