While the Quesnel Festival of the Performing Arts (QFPA) isn’t able to showcase talent with the usual shows and performances this year, they’re still trying to find ways to honour their past and present.
The organization put out a call for anyone who performed to submit their story and have it be posted on their Facebook and Instagram.
“I made countless memories at the QFPA over the years and made many lifelong friendships,” reads a post from Ali Cervienka.
“I still enjoy choreographing dances and taking classes when I can, and I attribute a lot of my continued passion for dance to the QFPA and my time as a dancer in Quesnel.”
Festival board member Vicky Predan said the response has been amazing, with responses still coming in.
“Since we had to cancel our festival, we wanted to do something to honour the performers, leading up to what would have been our 39th annual festival this year,” she said.
“(The responses) have been very heartwarming.”
Normally the festival runs from February to March and includes dance, speeches, piano and more. The 2022 edition of the festival was cancelled due to COVID-19 public health measures.
“We are trying to re-establish our board, so we’re looking for volunteers and are looking to come back strong for our 40th anniversary in 2023,” Predan said.
The Quesnel Festival of the Performing Arts was able to run a limited dance festival in 2021.
“We want to encourage our community to support our young, aspiring performers,” Predan said, adding they were looking for potential sponsors.
“It’s been a tough year, but we do have some good news, there are volunteers stepping forward, we’re filling up board member positions.”
Spotlight features on past and present performers can be viewed on the festival’s social media pages and their website, www.qfpa.org.
“The amount of support we’ve had from the community and out-of-town people in the festival world has been outstanding,” Predan said.
