Members of the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department have some new equipment to test out, courtesy of West Fraser Mills.

The local mill donated $25,000 worth of equipment to local firefighters, including two rescue saws, one portable generator, two battery-operated LED flood lights and 50 pairs of work boots – a pair for each active member.

Fire chief Sylvain Gauthier said the rescue saws were replacements, and all the other items were new pieces of equipment the department was in need of.

“[West Fraser] called me one day saying they wanted to do a donation to the fire department, and asked what we need. I said, ‘This is what we could use.’ They just came in and gave us all the articles we had asked for,” explained Gauthier.

He also added that all the items were purchased locally, except two articles which were not available.

“Quesnel fire members would like to thank West Fraser Mills for their wonderful donation,” said Gauthier.

“We are pleased to support the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department with important equipment. All of our operations are grateful for their dedication to keeping our community safe,” commented Chris Finch, general manager of the Quesnel sawmill operation.
