This weekend marks the 25th annual Steak-Out Show and Shine weekend, where car lovers can show off their rides and enjoy the festivities.

Hosted by the Quesnel Prospectors Car Club, the Steak-Out features three days of cruising and showing off for car enthusiasts.

The hot rods will travel from as far as Vancouver Island and Alberta to Quesnel on Friday, Aug. 19, where the party started at 10 a.m. in the Four Rivers Co-op parking lot for a cruise to Barkerville where lunch will be included.

On Saturday, there is a rod run at noon and an evening dinner and dance at the senior’s centre with cocktails at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m.

The Show and Shine and pin-up girl contest will be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in LeBourdais Park. Gates open at 7:00 a.m. There will be food and refreshments available.

This is the first post-pandemic event, and organizer Cory Delves was surprised by the amount of community support.

“Our show has been very well received, both in terms of cash donations, items for door prizes and in many other ways,” he said.

A particular highlight of the weekend is the stop at the local seniors centres where the residents can get up close and personal with the cars.

“The staff bring the residents onto the sidewalk, and the cars are 20 feet away from them. It’s always very well received,” Delves said.
