The Quesnel Tillicum Society and Native Friendship Centre will be holding its annual Max Pius sobriety walk on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It will begin at the centre and end back at the centre with drummers, dancers and speakers.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event.
"What we find is that the people, the families and the loved ones of people who are in addictions find comfort and hope in coming together as a community," said Dorine Greene, a youth outreach worker with the society. "To just bring awareness to the fact that we have a problem with addictions and that gives those families and loved ones an opportunity to remember those that have passed, to celebrate those who have chosen to be in recovery."
The walk is named after Max Pius, who was an alcoholic who become the first addictions counsellor at the centre after going through recovery. The walk is to honour and remember the work he did. This will be the 32nd year of the walk.
"People should come to show their support for people in recovery, people that have passed and the family and loved ones of people," Greene said. "Everyone is welcome. We would really like to see anybody who's even curious about it, doesn't really know much about what's going in the community as far as addictions."
It is open to absolutely anyone who wants to learn more or show their support, Greene said.
"When we say everyone is welcome we mean everyone."
