Quesnel to host Information Exchange

The Quesnel Child, Youth  and Family Network, and Adult Services Team (Quesnel Community Response Network) are working with various local helping professionals and the BC Association of Community Response Networks (BCCRNs) to provide an information sharing workshop in our community to raise awareness about abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults.

“People are uncertain or not adequately informed about where to get information regarding the financial, health and social needs of vulnerable adult individuals at risk,” David Sutton said, who has worked with adult community living services for the past thirty years.

“Throughout the Province and indeed throughout Canada, we are hearing from more family members and individuals who are concerned.”

The good news is there are support networks already in place which are working together to coordinate support and assistance services.

“Support may come from a variety of sources: community, provincial or federal.  The explicit roles within each organization may be similar, however, when a specific individual requires assistance they need to be guided and directed to the correct designated agency under the Adult Guardianship Legislation.”

When asked about how we can go about accessing appropriate services for individuals at risk, Dave replied, “there’s a role for CRNs in educating the community about “Designated Agencies” and the legislation.

Specific professionals work with specific populations to assist in accessing the most appropriate services.”

On April 29 the Quesnel Community Response Network and the Quesnel Child, Youth and Family Network Adult Services Team are hosting a Regional Information Exchange at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 94, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Mary Gradnitzer (Quesnel CRN), Brenda Gardiner (Nazko Band) and Dave Sutton (CLBC), are three of the local speakers who will be participating in the workshop.  Sherry Baker of the B.C. Association of Community Response Networks will also be making a presentation.

Local organizations and individuals who wish to learn more are invited to attend. Registration is required and lunch will be provided.
