Mikaela Manning didn’t expect to have the first baby of 2021 at GR Baker Hospital, but in the early hours of Jan. 3, she did.
“I was due on the eighth, so I didn’t think I had a chance,” she joked.
Sam Forrest Shelley was welcomed to the world at 12:39 a.m., by parents Mikaela Manning and Craig Shelley, alongside older brother Jake Shelley.
“Everything’s going really well,” Manning said “[Jake’s] still really little, but he’s comprehending he has a little brother so that’s really cool.”
Sam was seven pounds, two ounces at birth.
“It’s extremely different,” Manning said, comparing her first time taking a baby home to her second. “With Jake, we were first time parents, I was a first time mom, so there was a lot of really late nights… [This time] I knew what I was getting myself into.”
A Quesnel couple also welcomed the first baby of 2021 in Northern health. Kase, was born in Prince George at 4:11 a.m. on new year’s day to mom Jessica Penner and dad Kenneth Wray.
