The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #94 has prepared a full day of Remembrance Day events, with a couple extra additions this year.

The Legion will open its doors for coffee and tea around 9 a.m. and begin the parade at the Legion building at 10:30 a.m. This year, the parade route is one city block from the Legion down the 300 block of Barlow Avenue circling around and down the 300 block of McLean Street and end at the Cenotaph for the veteran’s salute and the laying of the wreaths at 11:10 a.m.

At 11:30 a.m., the Legion Lounges open for beverages, followed by the church service at the St. Andrew’s United Church at noon.

A new performance is debuting in the church this year before and after the Last Post, Act-of-Remembrance and prayers. The children’s choir, InSong, will be singing In Flanders Field and Inscription of Hope, which are sure to be a touching performance.

Following the church service, attendees can return to the Legion. At this time, the Legion will have an emotional unveiling of the newly mounted medals of Quesnel’s first and second World War veterans.

Tom Moffat, a longtime Legion member and Quesnel resident, spearheaded the efforts to honour the memory of our lost war heroes by hanging medals above the photo of each veteran.

Sadly, Moffat passed away this past September and will unable to witness the completion of his goal.

His absence will be felt by all in attendance at that time, and his work and dedication to the Legion will be honoured.

A performance by the pipe band will be lovely entertainment over lunch at 1 p.m. in the Legion Lounge. The meal will be provided by Save-On-Foods.

The vets dinner will take place at 4 p.m. in the Legion Lounge.

All are welcome, and encouraged, to join the celebration.
