Gardeners rejoice as Saturday April 23 will be Seedy Saturday, a free event where the community can learn about gardening, listen to live music from local artists and have the chance to win door prizes.
"The agenda is to try and encourage people to grow their own food and be more food secure and self sufficient," said Maureen Trotter who is part of the event's coordinating committee.
The day's agenda includes these workshops:
9:00 - Yoga for gardening
10:00 - Outdoor mushroom growing
11:00 - Growing with Climate Change
12:00 - Everything about composting
1:00 - Fire Smart Landscaping Considerations
2:00 - Introduction to beekeeping
One of the big features of Seedy Saturday is the seed exchange where people can bring in seeds they've saved and pick out new seeds.
"It's a way to provide locally appropriate low-cost seeds for people to start growing," Trotter said.
There will be a space for children and a composting demo as well as information booths and the workshops.
Every hour at the event there will be another chance to win a door prize, giving people extra incentive to stick around and learn even more about gardening. People will also be able to buy food and coffee at the event.
