Quesnel/Shiraoi Twinning Society and the community welcome the arrival of a delegation of seven from Shiraoi, Japan Nov. 3.

The group travels from Vancouver on the Thursday and is expected to arrive in time for the 5:30 p.m. society monthly dinner and meeting. Also organized specifically for the delegation to share with the community is an open house on Saturday at Shiraoi House with art workshops, a tea ceremony and the introduction of a indoor sport.

The delegation will be in Quesnel for five days and local society hosts and Japanese volunteer Tomoko Arisue plan to show the delegation a few of the local facilities.

On Nov. 4 they will tour the soccer facility in the morning and in the afternoon over to the Twin Arenas and curling rink where they will watch youth curling lessons and try their hand at the sport.

Saturday, during the open house, visitors are invited to learn flower arranging at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. This class requires reservations as space is limited to 10 per class and is expected to fill quickly. A small fee of $10 covers the cost of the vase and flowers for the class. Call 250-992-6532 between 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., or contact  Tomoko Arisue, 250-249-5804.

Also on Saturday, between 1 – 4 p.m.,  members of the delegation  and Quesnel/Shiraoi Twinning society will be on hand to teach a class in making slippers from used clothing; a Japanese tea ceremony; and the introduction of a new game called gate-ling. Drop by Shiraoi House and try your hand at this indoor, curling-inspired, floor game.

For these activities, no reservations are required.

Help welcome the Shiraoi delegation and spend an afternoon learning and having fun.
