Mother and daughter, Lorraine Gassoff and Kayla Powell, co-owners of Hi Chic Salon, welcome the public to their grand opening tomorrow, Feb. 4.

The salon, located in the former Hi Fashion shop on St. Laurent, has been open for business since the beginning of January.

Powell has always loved doing hair dressing.

“I love the social aspect of hair dressing and I really excel at colouring,” she said.

Powell had been interested in opening a salon of her own since going to school

at Kelowna’s Marvel College.

“We learned about opening our own business in school, so I decided that was something I wanted to do,” Powell said.

When she came back from maternity leave in November, she decided she wanted to make the  move forward with her hairdressing career.

“In November, my mom and I started talking to the previous owners about buying the salon,” Powell explained.

Gassoff and Powell took possession of the salon Dec. 31, 2011 and did three full days of renovations before opening their doors Jan. 4.

One thing that sets Hi Chic apart from other salons in Quesnel is they’re offering Hi Chic extensions.

“Hi Chic extensions are 100 per cent remy, which is really popular,” Powell explained, adding that they’re “fusion bonded.”

Hi Chic is also one of two salons in Quesnel that is a Redken salon.

Powell is enjoying the freedom that comes with owning a business.

“I get to set my own work schedule, spend more time with my kids and my family,” she explained.

Hi Chic’s grand opening is from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

There will be three door prizes, one $100 certificate for a hair package, a certificate for a pedicure as well as a gift basket valued at more than $200.

“We will also be offering 20 per cent off all our merchandise and have goodies and treats available for everyone who drops by,” Powell said.
