Quesnel’s annual Multiple Sclerosis Walk and Wheels event is set for this Saturday, May 26, and MS self-help group chair Donna Jagusch says fundraising efforts are underway.

This will be the sixth annual event, she says, and the local MS group is hoping for a good turnout to raise some funds for the MS Society of Canada.

“We have an awesome support group. They chip in and do so much,” says Jagusch.

“We’ve raised thousands in past years. We have one gal and she’s on the phone, or going around her neighbourhood in her scooter getting donations. She has over $2,000 so far.”

The walk will begin in Spirit Square, where a station will be set up with volunteers giving out free water. Mr Mikes burgers will be on sale, with proceeds going to the MS Society.

Jagusch says 10 per cent of donations from the event stay in Quesnel, and are used to help fund the HandyDart service for local MS sufferers, among other things.

There will also be raffles throughout the event on Saturday.

The walking route will take participants around the River Walk, obviously avoiding the flooded out area on the Johnston Bridge Loop. The route will be well-signposted, says Jagusch.

“Some people come and do the walk every year. It becomes personal, because someone in their family has MS,” comments Jagusch.

Interested walkers can show up at Spirit Square on Saturday, May 26 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to collect their free water and head out on the walk. Participants are encouraged to return to the square for a Mike burger.
