The Quesnel Observer is selling its historic building

The Observer's building is going up for sale, but our coverage will continue

The Observer has operated out of the building for nearly 40 years.

The Quesnel Cariboo Observer is putting a for sale sign on the iconic brick building located on Reid street and Carson avenue.

While we're changing our physical location, The Observer will still be bringing the community the latest in Quesnel, and Cariboo, news. We simply don't need the amount of the space the large building offers our four-person team.

Built in 1928, the brick building originally housed The Royal Bank. For over 30 years it was the only bank in Quesnel and housed a bathtub used by the community before big events. The tub is now in the Quesnel Visitor Centre in the museum for people to see part of the history.

The building was bought by the City of Quesnel and was the city's library from 1972 to 1977. The Observer took over the building in 1986 and the building has been the home of our local news coverage ever since.

People in Quesnel will always remember The Royal Bank Building as a bank, they'll always remember it as a library, they might remember it as one of the many other things the building hosted, and it is quite likely that the people of Quesnel will remember the brick building as the home of The Observer. While we didn't beat The Royal Bank in how long we worked out of the building, we came fairly close.

The Observer team will keep people in the know for where in Quesnel we end up next and we'll keep bringing folks the news while we transition to a new building. If you have a story idea, submit a story tip or send an email to austin.kelly@quesnelobserver.com.
