As the Quesnel Billy Barker Days Society members gather their thoughts and ideas for the 2018 Festival July 19-22, it will once again be contacting sponsors for funding or free or discounted services, which it require to put on the festival for Quesnel residents and visitors, says Billy Barker Days Society president Selina Weiers.

In the next couple of months, she notes society members will be visiting all past and potentially new sponsors in hopes they will be able to contribute.

“While we are moving forward, we find that we require some new active volunteers who can attend our monthly meetings and take on a role during the four days of the July festival, as well as assist in planning.

“This is an opportunity for members of the community to help us put on the best festival possible as well as learn and grow.”

Weiers notes they need assistance to help with the park vendors and assist with any problems that may arise.

She says they need several people who are consistently available starting on Wednesday (July 18) and ending on Sunday evening (July 22), and those who can also attend members’ meetings prior to that time in order to be up to date with all that is involved in the festival.

“We also would love energetic volunteers to help during the actual festival weekend – Kids’ Day and Seniors’ Day events under the tents in the park, and the organization of the parade lineup and flow early on the Saturday morning.”

Weiers notes this is a great opportunity for students to get involved in the community, as well as the volunteer hours being a nice addition to their resumes or college applications.

The society will have a booth at the 2018 Quesnel Home and Outdoor Adventure Show at the West Fraser Centre on April 28-29 for anyone interested in joining the festival group.
