Canadian chanteuse Sarah McLachlan and friends charmed the crowd at CN Centre Thursday

With the help of talented musical friends, Butterfly  Boucher and Melissa McClelland, Sarah McLachlan charmed a packed CN Centre in Prince George, last Thursday with her wit, honesty and her voice.

McLachlan sprinkled the more than two-hour concert with anecdotes about her childhood, parenthood, songs and relationship woes with a smile and humour which had the packed CN Centre crowd in the palm of her hand.

With voice in fine form, McLachlan opened the first set with Awakening, Building a Mystery, Loving You is Easy and Stupid.

McLachlan then surrendered the stage to bassist Boucher and McClelland.  Each performed two of their own songs with McLachlan, obviously content, to sing backup or accompany on guitar or piano.

The first half of the evening was rounded out with McLachlan's hit I Will Remember You from The Brothers McMullen movie soundtrack, Don't Give Up on Us and Out of Tune from her latest release Laws of Illusion and Fallen and World on Fire from her fifth studio album Afterglow.

Despite the arena setting, the evening felt much more like an intimate gathering with a sparsely decorated stage surrounded by curtains that gave the stage the appearance of an old movie theater.

The second set opened with Boucher and McClelland each contributing two more songs, then McLachlan took over with another eight songs, ending the set with Sweet Surrender and Possession.

For the encore, McLachlan contrasted the darkness of addiction with Angel and the light happiness of being in love with Ice Cream.
