Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel is trying a new fundraiser this fall by inviting you to a wedding. Kate’s Big Wedding, to be more precise.
Kate’s Big Wedding is a mock-wedding dinner theatre presentation taking place Nov. 10.
This is a new event for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Quesnel, and executive director Lorene Pulles expects it to be a very fun night. Community members who purchase a ticket to the fundraising event become guests at Kate’s Big Wedding. The ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. at St. John Anglican Church at 462 Kinchant Street, then the wedding party and guests will move to the Billy Barker banquet room at 308 McLean Street for the reception and dinner.
“We have some local actors and actresses in the community who have volunteered to play the roles,” explains Pulles. “It will be like a real wedding, but a bit of a comedy.”
Wedding guests bring a gift for the bride and groom and can decorate it however they want. These gifts will then be auctioned off to raise money for BBBS, explains Pulles. She expects this will be quite fun, as no one knows what is in the gifts except the guests who brought them, so there could be a wide variety of gifts.
Wedding guests can dress however they would like to, says Pulles, noting a ball gown is just as acceptable as plaid at Kate’s Big Wedding.
“It’s going to be really fun,” says Pulles. “I’m looking forward to it. We’re sort of testing the waters to see how this goes, and so far, the community has responded really well to it. We will hope to do it every year, and we’ll call it Kate’s Wedding every year.”
Money raised at Kate’s Big Wedding will help BBBS of Quesnel run mentoring programs for local children and youth.
“All the funds will stay locally,” says Pulles. “That helps support children and youth and activities for them.”
Tickets to Kate’s Big Wedding can be purchased in person at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Quesnel’s new location at 468 Reid Street, between Quesnel Bakery and Subway. For more information, contact BBBS at 250-992-7257.
