The RCMP busted a driver for a variety of traffic offences including failing to signal and evidence of alcohol consumption on Dec. 31, 2024.
This was one of 95 calls for service the RCMP responded to between Dec. 31, 2024 and Jan. 7, according to Sgt. Brian Lamb. This New Year's Eve incident occurred on the 500 block of Alder Avenue when a B.C. Highway Patrol officer pulled the driver over after observing them failing to signal, using an electronic device while driving and not wearing a seatbelt.
Lamb said after the officer spoke to the driver they observed evidence of alcohol consumption, leading to a breath test being conducted. The result was a warn.
Officers subsequently issued a 24-hour suspension from driving, as well as violation tickets for using an electronic device while driving, failing to wear a seatbelt and failing to signal. Two other occupants in the vehicle were also issued violation tickets for failing to wear seatbelts. The vehicle was impounded.
Drunk Driving
On Dec. 31, 2024, Lamb said RCMP were conducting a check stop in the Lone Butte area, where a vehicle was stopped and "observations of alcohol consumption were suspected on the driver." Officers subsequently conducted a breath test using an approved screening device, which resulted in a fail. The RCMP issued the driver an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days and impounded the vehicle for 30 days.
A week later on Jan. 7, the RCMP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 97 at the intersection of Exeter Truck Route.
RCMP attended, alongside EHS and 100 Mile Fire Rescue, where a vehicle was located crashed into a light standard, which had caused severe damage to the vehicle. Witnesses had observed the vehicle driving north on Highway 97 and reported it had been swerving between lanes before the collision.
Lamb said a single occupant of the vehicle was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. RCMP suspected alcohol consumption after speaking to the driver and conducted a breath test using an approved screening device which resulted in a fail.
RCMP subsequently issued the driver an immediate roadside driving prohibition for 90 days and impounded their vehicle for 30 days.
Thefts
On Jan. 1, the RCMP received a report of a theft from a vehicle parked on the 200 block of Fourth Street. The items taken included vehicle documents and there was damage done to the gas cap. Lamb said it is believed the incident happened overnight.
An attempted theft was reported to 100 Mile House RCMP on Thursday, Jan. 2. Lamb said the incident occurred on the 700 block of Alder Avenue where a Ford F250 pick-up truck had been discovered with damage consistent with attempted theft. The attempted theft is believed to have occurred on Dec. 27.
On Sunday, Jan. 5 another attempted theft of a vehicle was reported, this time along the 700 block of Alder Avenue. Lamb said another Ford F250 pickup truck was found with damage consistent with attempted theft, though this time documents were taken from the vehicle.
Break and enter
Lamb said that on Thursday, Jan. 2 officers responded to a report of break and enter of a business located on Cedar Avenue. Lamb said officers arrived and cleared the building.
Nothing had been taken and officers reported it appeared as though a person(s) had been living at the location while the business was closed. Officers also found evidence of a similar situation at another empty building in the general area surrounding the business.
