Artemis Gold announced it has completed its first pour of gold and silver at its Blackwater Mine, located approximately 110 kilometres southwest of Vanderhoof, B.C.
The mine will enter a ramp-up phase, with commercial production starting in the second quarter of 2025, according to a statement by Artemis Gold on Jan. 29.
"Our first pour of gold and silver was an exciting announcement. It is typical to have a ramp-up period when commissioning a new mine, even after the first pour. During this period, the team will ensure everything is working as it should and fix any identified deficiencies," said an Artemis Gold spokesperson in an email Jan. 30.
Vanderhoof Mayor Kevin Moutray said in a Jan. 30 email the district is "thrilled to see Artemis reach this milestone."
He added that the mine has been an important part of the district's economy and he looks forward to what what will come when it enters production.
The mine is estimated to be the largest gold mine development project in the Cariboo region of B.C. in more than a decade, and it is expected to see multiple decades of operation.
"Artemis Gold is a great asset to our community and it has been very educational watching as they have progressed through the stages of becoming an operational mine," said Shelley Funk, Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce manager, in an email Jan. 30.
The mine is expected to generate 457 direct full-time jobs per year over its operating life, according to reports by Artemis Gold.
