Children from conception to aged 19 receive services from the CDC.

CDC wants Quesnel residents to celebrate Valentines Day, Feb. 12, with dinner, auction and dance gala at the CNC/UNBC campus.

The black-tie fundraiser event is designed to provide the public with a first class evening of entertainment and fun, while helping CDC raise money for programs.

In tough economic times, the public’s ability to donate to worthy organizations can sometimes be compromised.

CDC executive director Kurt Pedersen said the demand for Child Development Centre services has more than doubled since 2000, from 224 clients to 534 clients, ranging in age from conception to aged 19.

“As costs increase, contract funding has remained the same,” Pedersen said.

“Any increase only covers staff wage increases.

“After moving into this new building (three times the space) our fundraising efforts have netted less money while our client load has more than doubled and costs continue to rise.”

So, just when you think winter will never end and you’re desperate for a night on the town, CDC’s Valentines dinner, auction and dance gala will hit the right note.

Beginning at 5 p.m. with cocktails and appetizers, dinner, catered by Jean’s Side Door, follows at 6 p.m. with chicken cordon bleu, whipped and stuffed potatoes in rosettes, carrots, broccoli and turnips in a floral arrangement with a side of spring salad with drizzle dressing, sprouts

and a dinner bun, all delivered to your table by local community living clients.

The auction includes such coveted items as a half-hour helicopter ride for two, Canucks home game tickets coupled with a signed jersey, chainsaw carvings and diamond earrings paired with matching diamond necklace.

Finish the night with dancing to Quesnel’s own Hot Rash band and Night Hour Music.

Tickets are $35 each or $65 a couple at CDC, Blumko Flower Art and Bo Peep Boutique.
