Highway 26 Folk Music Review at Gold Pan studio

Four Cariboo-based singer/songwriters are getting together for an evening of story and song. Wells songstress Yael Wand, Karyn Ellis (recently relocating to Cottonwood), and the Wingdamramblers (Murray Boal and Bob Campbell) are performing March 11, 8 p.m. at Gold Pan City Dance Studio in downtown Quesnel.

Yael was born in Israel and raised in Vancouver and now makes her home with foxes, bears and miners in the northern mountains of British Columbia.

Her shift from big city to small town plays out in her music. Yael sings urban lullabies alongside tales from the rustic cabins of the backwoods. She delivers songs with the sensibility of folk and allusions to jazz, all set in the landscape of a wild country.

Karyn Ellis’ folk-based pop songs are beautiful and sad, uplifting and quirky.

This modern folk darling has a distinctively sweet voice, unique guitar style and gentle sense of humour.

The Wingdamramblers perform a combination of Murray’s rural storytelling songs and Bob’s eclectic, heartfelt songs, with a touch of humour in the mix. As well as a songwriter, Murray has been an organic farmer for 30 years. He currently co-operates Dragon Mountain Farm in the beautiful Quesnel River valley.

Bob lives in the 1930’s gold mining town of Wells, where he divides his time between teaching music, writing songs, playing pool and splitting firewood.

All four songwriters have released multiple CD’s. All four have also received radio airplay across Canada.

Tickets for Highway 26 Folk Music Review are $10 advance, $12 at door, available at Quesnel Music.
