The 150th anniversary of Confederation offers a special opportunity to celebrate one of the most positive symbols of our Canadian identity

The 150th anniversary of Confederation offers a special opportunity to celebrate one of the most positive symbols of our Canadian identity, our national flag.  Canada's unique and much loved flag was adopted in 1965.  In 1996, Feb.15 was declared National Flag Day of Canada. In 2017 on Wednesday Feb.15  at 12:15 p.m. the Quesnel Blackwater Paddlers will be celebrating the 51st anniversary of the adoption of our national flag at a brief but special ceremony to take place at the  Voyageur Rock flag pole site, located on the bank of the Fraser River across from the sami-dump round about on Front Street.   In 2002, the Blackwater Paddlers worked with the City of Quesnel to establish the Voyageur Rock Heritage Site which commemorates the presence of both Alexander Mackenzie and Simon Fraser at this location, as well as the first documented contact between local Dakelh First Nations people and European explorers at what was to become Quesnel. Everyone is invited to participate, as a brand new flag is raised at this spot.  Come and sing O Canada as we celebrate not just National Flag of Canada Day, but also the 150th anniversary of our Canada as a nation.
