Quesnel Film Club presents Winter's Bone

Quesnel Film Club’s upcoming movie Winter’s Bone, April 7, Carib Theatre, delves into the bleak, dark world of methamphetamine labs with a backdrop of Ozark Mountains rural poverty.

Winter’s Bone is a 2010 American independent drama film, an adaptation of Daniel Woodrell’s 2006 novel of the same name.

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence as Ree Dolly, a 17-year-old who finds herself caring for her mentally ill mother and her little brother and sister after her father disappears.

Her father, a meth-cooker has gone missing and if he doesn’t show for his court date, the family, who are already severely marginalized, will lose their home due to the father’s bail conditions.

As Ree desperately tries to find out what happened to her father she becomes the victim of drug culture violence

and the power that wields.

Winter’s Bone received four 2011 Academy Award nominations.

Despite the depressing world she lives in, Ree displays remarkable optimism and hope for the future for herself and her siblings.

Tickets for Winter’s Bone are $9 (adult) and $7 (seniors) with film club memberships included in admission.
