Quesnel Relay for Life recognized for raising $1M

In the December Cancer Clip, I neglected to mention that at our December meeting Cathy Briggs, on behalf of the Quesnel Unit, accepted an award presented by Nancy Shelford recognizing that the community of Quesnel has raised $1 million through Relay for Life. These funds have been raised over the past nine years – and this year (May 28th) will be our 10th Annual Relay For Life. Congratulations, Quesnel!

Although we are in mid-winter in Quesnel just now, the Quesnel Unit is gearing up for our spring Daffodil Campaign. This year, members Elezina McIntyre and Trev Gulbranson are heading up this committee. As last year, the campaign will involve cut flowers and daffodil pins. The flowers will be sold on March 31 – April 2. Cut flowers may be ordered through the Unit office. April 27 will be Daffodil Day and all Canadians are asked to wear a daffodil pin to show their support for those fighting cancer. Many volunteers are needed to make our daffodil campaign a success. Contact the Quesnel Unit at 250-992-6551 if you would like to volunteer.

Relay For Life, whose theme this year is “Celebrate Your Super Hero” will take place on May 28. After a number of years as Luminary Chair, Beth Cyr is stepping down from this position. This is another volunteer opportunity for members and new members.

Other volunteer positions currently vacant are: Prevention Volunteer and Palliative Care Representative. Contact the Quesnel Unit for more information if you think you might be interested in these positions.

Our Christmas sales campaigns were very successful and raised approximately $2,000. Thank you, volunteers and purchasers! We have only 16 tins of truffles left to sell.

They may be purchased at the Quesnel Unit office and might make a lovely gift for your Valentine.

The Quesnel Unit meets on the second Wednesday of each month at noon at our office on Front Street. Our next meeting is Feb. 9. Please consider joining us.
