BBBSQ is pleased to announce that we have received Honourable Mention in the 2010 Donner Awards Program for excellence in the delivery of social services.

Through a Non-Profit Performance application process, more than 500 Canadian agencies were evaluated on

10 performance criteria.

The Donner Canadian Foundation and the Fraser Institute assessed us against other participating agencies in our category (Services for Children.)

We are very proud of this achievement.

Michelle Riley, our Teen/In-School mentor coordinator is very pleased at

the success of the Teen Mentoring program this past semester.

Each Correlieu student was matched with a student at École Baker Elementary. Both the teens and the younger children benefited from the experience. Sue Ellen Miller, SD28 superintendent, attended the wrap us session to acknowledge and thank the mentors.

One elementary student remarked “she (Teen Mentor) was the best friend that I had.”

Some of the teen mentors comments about their participation in the program included “feeling like I made a difference and being a positive role model,” “seeing how happy I made her,” “seeing our connection grow,” “I wish I had more time, very sad to leave,” and

“I really enjoyed sharing stories and laughing.”

Michelle is looking forward to starting

a new set of teens for the next semester. She is still looking for people in the community who would like to mentor a student.

It just takes one hour every week.

Our Annual Bowl for Kids Sake will take place at the Rev Bowling Lanes April 17, 9 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The theme this year is Peace, Love, Rock ‘n Bowl.

If you are interested in getting a team together, call Joanie, 250-992-7257 for information.

You can also register online at bigbrothersbigsistersofquesnel.ca.

Our target goal is $20,000. Help us make this a success and sign up today.

The funds help us serve the children/youth in our community with mentoring friendships.
