July is proving to be a hot-ticket month of entertainment at The Sunset Theatre in Wells. They kicked things off with three fabulous shows last Canada Day weekend, including the world premiere of Charlie Ross’s newest show, One Man Avengers. Ross has spent the last 15 years performing internationally to sold-out houses with his hit shows One Man Star Wars and One Man Lord of the Rings.
Award-winning talent continues to take the Sunset stage next weekend, when Vancouver-based actress Beverley Elliott performs her multi-award-winning play Sink or Swim. In 2018, Sink or Swim won Best Musical at the United Solo Theatre Festival in New York City.
“Sink or Swim is Little House on the Prairie meets Lord of the Flies,” says Elliott, as she trades the safety of the family farm for the thugs of a one-room school. In this poignant, playful and achingly relatable show, Elliott navigates the uncharted waters, big adventures, betrayals and epiphanies that shape us all into the adults we become.
Set in rural Ontario, Elliott has enchanted audiences with this beautiful piece for the past three years. She is accompanied on stage by renowned pianist Bill Costin, who scores the play with original music written by the dynamic duo and sung by Elliott.
Elliott has worked in theatre, film and television for more than 30 years.
Audiences may recognize her from her recurring role as Granny on ABC’s popular series Once Upon A Time.
Performances of Sink or Swim will be presented at the Sunset Theatre on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. For reservations, call 250-994-3400.
