A vehicle was caught going 144 km/h in a 100 km/h zone as part of the 97 calls to service the 100 Mile House RCMP responded to last week.
Sgt. Brian Lamb said the speeding incident took place on May 17, when the RCMP conducted a patrol on Highway 97 near Easzee Drive. A vehicle was observed travelling northbound “at a high rate of speed”, according to Lamb. Radar clocked the vehicle going 144 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.
After the RCMP stopped the vehicle, they detected “observations of alcohol consumption” by the male driver which led to an admission that he was drinking. The RCMP then conducted a breath test, which the male driver subsequently failed. The male was then issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days, with his vehicle being impounded for 30 days.
Several incidents also occurred which involved drivers not having valid insurance and/or driver’s licence Lamb said.
Two incidents in particular happened on May 20. The first incident allegedly occurred when BC Highway Patrol conducted a patrol on Highway 97 near Kokanee Bay Road where a vehicle observed was determined to have “no valid insurance.”
The vehicle was then stopped, with the male driver confirming he had no valid driver’s licence. Lamb said officers discovered the male also was found to have a prohibition from driving, as well as being in breach of his probation conditions for possessing “break-in tools and instruments.” The RCMP arrested the man and later released him, while his vehicle was revoked because of “unsafe vehicle defects” according to the RCMP. He was also issued violation tickets for not having insurance as well as having a defective vehicle. The male, who the RCMP says was from Williams Lake, will be attending court at a later date.
The other incident of note occurred on the same day. On that day, BC Highway Patrol was conducting a patrol of Highway 97 near First Street - where a vehicle was “observed being driven by a male who was known to not have a valid driver’s licence.” The RCMP stopped the vehicle, whose driver did not get his driver’s licence renewed because it was too expensive, Lamb said.
The RCMP found the male was unlicensed, as well as stated that his vehicle was an “impound candidate.” The RCMP served the man a violation ticket for no driver’s licence and the vehicle, which the RCMP said was registered to another person, was impounded for seven days. The man was also issued a prohibition notice from driving for a month.

Another incident where a driver was caught with no driver’s licence occurred on May 19. BC Highway Patrol was conducting a patrol on Highway 97 and Fourth Avenue when a vehicle was observed that the RCMP knew the owner of had no valid driver’s license. The vehicle was subsequently impounded for seven days, and the driver was issued a violation ticket for no driver’s licence.
A hit-and-run collision is said to have occurred on May 15. RCMP said that the incident occurred in the parking lot of the 100 block of Birch Avenue. A vehicle had been leaving the parking lot area, which backed into a man driving a grey pickup truck that was believed to be a Toyota Tundra.
Lamb said the man got out of the vehicle looked at the damage, and then said it “looked fine” and drove away “without exchanging information or insurance details.” RCMP says that the incident occurred after 10 a.m. on the day of the report.
Mischief played a factor in an alleged May 18 incident where the RCMP received a report of such occurring to a vehicle on the 200 block of Fourth Street. The vehicle, which the RCMP say was parked at the location, had its passenger side window smashed. The RCMP does not know if anything was taken from the vehicle.
A shed was reportedly broken into in the 80 Block of Cecil Place. RCMP received a report on May 20 that, sometime over the last two days, the shed had been entered and a red propane camp stove, STIHL electric weed trimmer with charger, as well as a wrench and socket set were stolen.
Finally, on May 20, BC Highway Patrol conducted stationary speed enforcement on Highway 97 near 83 Mile House. The RCMP says they issued four violation tickets for speeding and notices were provided for issues related to vehicle defects.
