A new gymnastics and indoor court facility won't be coming to Quesnel anytime soon.
According to the latest Cariboo Regional District (CRD) board meeting, which took place on June 18 and 19, the CRD and the City of Quesnel, "will cease its pursuit of funding" the additions to the arts and recreation centre, removing the goal listed at #11 from the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks Business Plan.
In the North Cariboo Joint Advisory Committee's (NCJAC) regular meeting back on May 20, it was recommended to remove these goals (#11 and 12) to bring the facilities to Quesnel be amended.
The report provided the NCJAC with the results of completed survey following a strategic planning session that occurred on Mar. 31.
The results from the survey stated "a desire to see a focus on existing facilities and services rather than constructing new ones," reads the CRD board meeting report.
Quesnel and the CRD renewed its North Cariboo Recreation and Parks Business Plan in 2024, a five-year deal to run until 2029. The gymnastics and indoor court plan is the only 2025 goals removed from the plan so far. The gymnastics facility was reported to be $3.4 million plan, while the cost of the court wasn't listed in the May 20 report.
"Other priorities stated in the business plan will continue to be pursued such as playground upgrades, energy efficiency upgrades, and building up capital fund reserves to support future major capital investments," reads the June 18-19 CRD report.
