Regardless of whether an impeccably starched uniform, magnificent posture and shiny boots is your cup of tea, the Annual Ceremonial Review for Quesnel’s Royal Canadian Air Cadets #768 Jet Ranger Squadron would have left you more than impressed.

Taking place on a slightly overcast Sunday (May 27) morning in the parking lot adjacent to The Royal Canadian Legion, the cadets marched in line with precision, stood at attention over the course of the ceremony and performed a march pass in front of a crowd which included cadet leadership, former cadets, parents, local politicians and inspecting officer RCMP Staff Sargent Andrew Burton.

Staff Sargent Burton says the performance was fantastic.

“It’s clear the instructors and the cadets themselves have done such a remarkable job in preparation for today,” he says.

“The cadet program is a fantastic program for youth. It sets them up with so many valuable life skills.

“Clearly they are all leaders in their own way and I feel fortunate to be a part of it.”

The event was the final parade for the squadron’s 2017-2018 training season.

Awards and medals were handed out to the cadets that best exemplified the values of the squadron: good citizenship, leadership and physical fitness.

A change of command ceremony also took place, where Captain Joanne McCallum, who has lead these cadets for four years, handed over charge of the squadron to its new commanding officer Captain Mike Forster.

Following one last parade, the cadets and onlookers gathered in the legion hall for light snacks and static displays of the squadron’s achievements.
