This year’s Tour Of Lights will keep shining for local seniors long after the festive glitter has faded.

The Quesnel Chamber of Commerce lit West Fraser Timber Park in all the twinkling colours of Christmas, and used the heartwarming spectacle to raise funds for the region’s elders connected to the North Cariboo Seniors’ Council (NCSC).

“Monies that were raised from the Tour Of Lights were enough for three months of meals and extra gift cards for groceries,” said Chamber manager Kathy Somerville.

The NCSC offers an array of programs for elders, including social activities, connectivity and fellowship opportunities, food and health services, housing and transportation help, and many other ways of easing the burdens of our area’s golden population.

The money was raised from donations and entry fees as cars lined up to drive through the park after it and strategically stationed rigs had all been dazzlingly decorated. The Dec. 10 drive-thru event is a celebration of the industrial engines that allow our local economy to rumble, and dive headlong into the holiday spirit.
