A 26-year-old man was arrested and released this week pending further investigation after Mounties seized guns manufactured from a 3D printer.

Sgt. Clay Kronebusch of the Quesnel RCMP said a search warrant conducted Feb. 15 at about 7:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Ten Mile Lake Road led to the seizure of manufactured firearms and firearm parts, 3D printers and other accessories used in the manufacturing of firearms.

Quesnel RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit, in partnership with the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), conducted the search, which was the result of an investigation into the manufacturing of firearms and firearm parts utilizing 3D printers.

The results of the investigation will be sent to the BC Prosecution Service for assessment of appropriate charges, noted police.

“It is illegal to manufacture firearms and to possess or access computer data that can be used with a 3D printer to manufacture firearms,” said Kronebusch. “These manufactured firearms have the potential to pose a great risk to the public and police.”
