BC Hydro is looking to reward youth in the community who are passionate about energy and safety.

Applications are being accepted for the BC Hydro Power Pioneers Community Service Award until March 31.

BC Hydro Power Pioneers provincial director Rae Daggitt says the awards recognize students who give back to the community, and, generally, they like to see involvement in projects and programs that are related to safety and energy conservation.

The BC Hydro Power Pioneers are recognizing youth who have excelled in community service. BC Hydro is looking for students who have made “outstanding contributions” in their community for a considerable amount of time or have initiated, organized or contributed significantly to a one-time project.

“We’re looking for students who have made outstanding volunteer contributions in their community,” the BC Hydro Power Pioneers state in a press release. “Priority will be given to students who are participating in or organizing programs and initiatives that focus on the smart use of energy or the promotion of safety.”

Eligible students are graduating from high school this June and are planning to attend an accredited Canadian university, college or technical school in the areas of science, technology, engineering, math or the trades for fall 2019.

Priority will be given to students who are involved in programs or initiatives that focus on educating, inspiring or developing new ideas around energy and energy efficiencies or focus on promoting electrical safety, water safety or emergency preparedness.

Twenty $500 cash awards are available in British Columbia.

Application forms are available online at powerpioneers.com, and anyone who would like more information can contact Daggitt at 250-747-0883.
