The 100 Mile House RCMP responded to 81 calls for service for the week of March 12, to 19, including reports of mischief, vehicle theft and a collision.

Drugs are suspected to be behind a vehicle striking a cattle guard on Highway 97 last week, said Sgt. Brian Lamb of the 100 Mile House RCMP. On March 16, BC Highway Patrol officers found an unconscious man behind the wheel of the vehicle and woke him up.

Lamb said officers made “physical observations of drug use” and that the man failed a roadside sobriety test and further tests conducted by a drug recognition expert. RCMP issued an immediate 24-hour roadside suspension from driving and took a urine sample to confirm drug use. Charges are expected if the sample comes back positive.

Lamb said criminal mischief played a factor in four incidents throughout the last two weeks. On March 12 Lamb says they responded to a report of mischief to a vehicle at the 200 block of Seventh Street. Lamb said a window was smashed “sometime overnight” to the vehicle. There is no word on who is alleged to have committed the act.

On March 17, two other incidents of mischief happened according to Lamb. Between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m., mischief happened to a vehicle parked at a business on the 90 block of Highway 97.

Lamb said they observed a door handle damaged by someone who had attempted to gain access to the vehicle.

The other act of mischief occurred on the same day to another car parked at a business on the 500 block of Alder Avenue. Lamb said a tire was deflated and the vehicle’s paint was damaged.

Finally, on March 18, Lamb said they received a report of mischief to a vehicle parked on the 700 block of Cariboo Trail. RCMP officers reported that the driver’s side window of the vehicle had been smashed.

Two vehicles were also reported stolen last week. The first was stolen from the 80 Block on Cecil Place on March 11, described as a grey Chevrolet Avalanche with BC licence plate PD 7406.

On Sunday, March 17, Lamb said RCMP received a report that a grey 1997 Honda Civic with a BC licence plate SX 224J was taken from a residence. The vehicle was seen in the 70 Mile House area later that same day. Neither vehicle has been recovered.

Lamb said that those with information about these incidents are asked to call the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456, anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and online at bccrimestoppers.com.
