Two fire departments raced to a rural road just outside of Quesnel to fight a fire Sunday (Mar. 10) afternoon.

The Barlow Creek Volunteer Fire Department was the initial agency called to the incident on Bulova Road. Quesnel Fire Department also sent trucks and firefighters to help.

The alarm sounded at 11:35 a.m. and kept firefighters there for hours due to the challenging interior circumstances. Smoke was significant, more so than flames, as firefighters searched for the sources of the heat.

The outbuildings near to the house were not affected by any heat or flames, and the well spaced rural neighbourhood just off the Barkerville Highway meant many homes were in the vicinity, but none so close that there was any threat of fire extension to them.

The Quesnel Cariboo Observer will provide more information as it becomes known.
