Local Winter Games medalists from Lhtako Quesnel BC Winter Games

Kayden D’Entremont, Kayla Erickson, Lily Fraser and Abbey MacKay won a combined seven medals

A total of seven medals were won at the Lhtako Quesnel BC Winter Games by four athletes who call this community home.

In archery, all three of the Quesnel River Archers Club members who earned berths in the Games came away with two medals each: Kayla Erickson getting a gold and silver with a recurve bow, Kayden D’Entremont earning two silvers with a compound bow, and 150 Mile House’s Lily Fraser (who shoots for the Quesnel club) took two gold with a compound bow.

The archery events took place at the Quesnel Indoor Sports Centre on converted soccer fields.

On the Nordic trails, biathlete Abbey MacKay took the bronze medal in the Junior Girls overall standings, earning her spot on the podium starting at Hallis Lake Ski & Snowshoe Trails where she trains on a regular basis, then completed the medal win on the streets of Barkerville where no provincially sanctioned sporting event has occurred for more than a century.

Other Quesnel athletes who took part in their hometown Games were:

• Zone 8 ringette team players Elyse Anderson, Nikolai Benson, Grace Cassidy, Izzy Jaroszuk, Alexis McHone and Mylie Schweitzer. The team placed fourth, ending with an exciting home ice medal game at West Fraser Centre;

• Hayden Booth and Elek Kovach in biathlon;

• Cross-country skiers Carter Bohme, Friday Borsato-Stobbe and Lily Davison;

• Sayla Forman and Kassia Kitamura in artistic gymnastics;

• Cayleigh Arntsen, Shiloh Bright and Nicholas Wozny competed in badminton.

Quesnel was also represented in the coaching and officiating ranks by archery coaches Adam D’Entremont and Lora-Lee Murray; coach Taylor O’Flynn and officials Erin Hipkiss and Lisa Laundry in artistic gymnastics; official Dave Munro in badminton; officials in biathlon included Karen Balkwill, Alison Crellin, Jim Crellin, Chris Elden, Lisa McCargar and Cindy Sherstan; curling coach Justin Nillson; and Dacia Kimmie as a figure skating official.
