A hometown doubleheader all pointed up for head coach Jordan Draper.

The Roos dropped the first game Saturday night (Jan. 27) to the Hazelton Wolverines by a score of 5-2. It wasn’t at all a gloomy result, said Draper.

“The second period against Hazelton was some of the best hockey I’ve seen the team play in a really, really long time,” the coach said. “I think we controlled a lot of the game but a couple of mistakes, and not playing the third period the way we should have, cost us. But all in all, I think it was a good hockey game.”

Whatever the lessons were from Saturday certainly kicked into gear on Sunday. The Roos met up with the Kitimat Ice Deamons, who had a short bench for this long road trip from the coast, and took out their friustrations. When the ice chips had settled it was Quesnel 11 and Kitmat 1.

“We showed we could score goals, albeit versus a team that was undermanned,” Draper said. “We need to carry the puck with confidence heading into the last weekend of the regular season. We’ve had a tough year with injuries and player scheduling conflicts that has made the year challenging, but the effort has been there all year and if we can keep that up into the last weekend, I like our chances.”

On Sunday the team got goals from Sean Ramsay (2), Brett Mero (2), Alessio Tomassetti (2), and singles from Justin Fillion, Darby Madill, Leif Scott, Brody Dyck, and Byron Sam.

“I wouldn’t want to play us in the playoffs, if I were a higher seeded team,” Draper said.
