Three tight games out of three gave curling fans a reason to cheer during Quesnel Sponsor League action, Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The Sponsor League is the city’s top-ranked platoon of rinks, six altogether, all of them in action at 7 p.m. each Wednesday.
On one of the Quesnel Curling Club’s (QCC) sheets, Billy Barker Casino took on Fresno Construction.
“It was close after three ends,” said QCC manager Dave Plant. “Then the casino drained the Fresno think tank, leaving them baffled and at a total loss.” The final score after the pull-away was 6-2.
On the second sheet, Quesnel Scaffolding and Fixx Auto went head to head. “It was a tight game; scoring was back and forth,” said Plant. “Quesnel Scaffolding was up one in the last end, with the hammer. They scored two to earn an 8-5 final.”
In the third matchup of the trio, RedzShedz went up against the Child Development Centre.
“The kids came out with a lot of energy after the Christmas break, stealing two in the second end to go up 3-0,” Plant said. “RedzShedz got two in the third and stole three in the fourth to go up 5-3. After trading deuces, the CDC down two coming home, they were laying one but missed the draw to the button to force an extra end.”
RedzShedz eked out a 7-6 win.
Fans and those interested in curling are invited to drop in and watch. There is action at the QCC most nights of the week, and Wednesdays are often where the bragging rights are in hottest sporting debate.
