River Rush face defeat in exhibition games against Wranglers

The River Rush home opener will be at the West Fraser Centre on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

The Quesnel River Rush lost both of its exhibition games against the 100 Mile House Wranglers.

In 100 Mile House Sept. 11, the team lost 1-3 with the only goal by the Rush being scored by Adam Valach and assisted by Josh Greenough and Cash Anderson. The Wranglers scored a goal in each period, defeating the Rush.

On Sept. 13 at the River Rush home ice at the West Fraser Centre, they took an early lead with Dane Dietz and Josh Greenough scoring goals in the first period while the Wranglers only got one in the Rush's net. Tate O'Brien assisted on both of those Rush goals with Gage Parrell and Ian George giving assists to one each. The Wranglers tied things up in the second period.

The Wranglers took the lead early in the third period but Richard Burden tied things back up with an assist by Cash Anderson and Tate O'Brien. But with less than two minutes left on the clock, the Wranglers scored the final goal and took the win 4-3.

Before the Rush's home game a moment of silence was observed to honour the memory of Lane Wiggins who died in a car crash last November. Wiggins was a passionate about hockey and his jersey is hung up in the West Fraser Centre. The Sept. 13 game was on Wiggins' birthday.

The big home opener for the Junior A team's regular season will be Sept. 20 at the West Fraser Centre at 7 p.m.
