Two Cariboo Regional District directors in areas near to Quesnel will not be seeking new terms during the election this October, with one confirming he will run.

Dylan Cash, director for Electoral Area I (Narcosli/Nazko/West Fraser) says he has decided not to run for re-election.

He cites his main reason as having two young children that he would like to spend more time with. Cash has served one term with the CRD, after being elected in 2014.

And Electoral Area A’s Ted Armstrong (Red Bluff/Quesnel South) told the Observer last month that he will retire from 40 years with the CRD this year.

“I enjoyed my time. You end up with lifelong friends too, with that kind of stuff,” he says.

Armstrong says he and his wife hope to travel in their motorhome more after he retires.

Not long after Armstrong publicized his intent to retire, Mary Sjostrom declared her intention to run in Electoral Area A. Sjostrom is a former mayor of Quesnel (2008-2014) and has been the alternate director or Area A for four years.

And John Massier, Electoral Area C (Bowron Lake/Barlow Creek/Barkerville) director and CRD vice-chair, says he will run for re-election in this year’s race.

“Area C has played an important part in the history of the Cariboo and is critical to our future successes. It has been my home for over 40 years and I have been honoured to represent the citizens of the area on the Cariboo Regional District Board for the past 10 years,” Massier says in an email.

He says he looks forward to another term, given the opportunity.

Jerry Bruce, CRD director for Electoral Area B (Quesnel West/Bouchie Lake) had not responded to the Observer regarding whether or not he would seek another term at post time.

CRD nominations begin Sept. 4 and run to Sept. 14, with the general voting day scheduled for Oct. 20.
