Chad Stump wants to see the City of Quesnel continue to prosper while connecting Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and bringing forward new ideas and solutions to local challenges.
The former ?Esdilagh First Nation councillor is running for city councillor in the October 2022 municipal election.
“I’ve been involved with leadership in my life and really wanted to jump on it and start contributing to some of the great work that they’ve already been doing and a new outlook on a few of those items,” Stump said.
Among the areas Stump wants to set focus on is the city’s homelessness which he said needs real solutions.
Another is local healthcare.
“Our facilities are being overloaded, and service providers are also being overloaded with a growing population, so we need to find some answers for our city so we can really prosper with quality health and quality services being provided by the great workers that are already here,” Stump said.
Stump previously served a four-year term with ?Esdilagh First Nation chief and council, and opted not to seek re-election when in-person voting ended Aug. 15, 2022, at the Chief Frank Joe Health Centre to elect two councillors.
He also worked as band manager for the Indigenous community located between Williams Lake and Quesnel along both sides of the Fraser River.
“And finally just being the Indigenous voice for families here that are local to Quesnel and being at the table and showing our young people that anything is possible,” Stump said of running for Quesnel city council.
“We can do great things; we just have to put our minds to it.”
General voting is Saturday, Oct. 15.
