Agriculture forum promotes business

First it was Career Leap, a successful annual career conference, now School District 28 is sponsoring another conference in the “Leap” series called Ag and Hort Leap.

Ag and Hort Leap is a conference for agriculture and horticulture businesses, organizations and individuals.

It all takes place Jan. 22 at the College of New Caledonia – Quesnel Campus, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a venue for agriculture and horticulture businesses in the North Cariboo to learn, gain ideas for growing their business and network.

Keynote speakers include Josh Volk of Slowhand Farm Organic Growing. Volk helped develop and manage the very successful Sauvie Island Organics Community Shared Agriculture (CSA), an intensive 18-acre vegetable farm outside of Portland, Oregon.

Donna Dixson founder of Flair Innovations Marketing and Branding will also be featured, with a dynamic presentation that inspires innovation providing strategic advisory and implementation services in the areas of organizational

and business development.

Workshop topics include: food security and food policy councils and specialty crop and agroforestry opportunities, four seasons and organic growing, greenhouse technologies, marketing and brand development and province-wide best practices. Product displays, agency and education static exhibits and a “progress” ribbon cutting of the new 20 foot by 60 foot greenhouse at the College of New Caledonia will also be a part of the conference schedule.
