FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Quesnel Chosen as Host City to Kick Off Culture Days Celebrations in B.C. this Fall

Planning has begun for a launch event and a three-week lineup of free and Pay-What-You-May arts and culture events for the Quesnel Community.

BC Culture Days has announced the selection of Quesnel as host city for the launch of this year’s Culture Days celebrations. From September 22 to October 15, 2023, Culture Days programs across the country will invite the public to partake in participatory and creative experiences to highlight the importance of arts and culture and its vital impact in our communities nationwide. Kicking off the three-week run of arts and culture activities across the province, The Quesnel Culture Days festival hub and launch will be home to numerous free, hands-on, and interactive cultural events and art experiences for the local community to enjoy.

“Quesnel has set the bar high over the past number of years in terms of its investment in engaging and inclusive arts and culture programming for Culture Days. We’re very pleased to be partnering with the Quesnel and District Community Arts Council to launch this year’s celebrations,” says Nazanin Shoja, BC Culture Days Program Director.

The Quesnel and District Community Arts Council is leading the organization of the festival hub and launch with the support of BC Culture Days and local community partners. The planning of a dynamic event lineup of creative activities and interactive performances is underway for the Quesnel Culture Days festival hub, spotlighting the work of local Indigenous creatives, cultural leaders, artists, and visual arts and heritage organizations. The opening ceremonies are set to take place at Spirit Square, in the heart of downtown Quesnel, with country, jazz, drumming, and rock performances by local music groups, including Correlieu Jazz Band, Kordaroy, Lyla/Moore, Nazko Drum Group, and No More Cries.

Beyond inviting families, arts lovers, and the general public to gather in the name of celebrating arts and culture, Quesnel Culture Days will promote local organizations and present unique volunteer opportunities for individuals in the community. Organizations interested in offering an activity or participating as a sponsor for Quesnel Culture Days are encouraged to contact Dina Unrau, Executive Director at Quesnel and District Community Arts Council. Emails can be sent to qdcac2015@gmail.com.

Culture Days raises the awareness, accessibility, participation, and engagement of individuals and the arts and cultural life of their communities across Canada. Now in its 14th year, it is a collaborative movement dedicated to providing free, hands-on, and interactive arts and culture activities. Organizations and artists across B.C. are encouraged to register their new programming or pre-existing events that fall between September 22 to October 15, 2023 on the Culture Days website. Anyone—from grassroots community volunteers, public libraries, and independent artists, to major arts, culture, and heritage institutions, specialty festivals, and municipalities—can register Culture Days events as long as the events are participatory and free or Pay-What-You-May to attend. Event registration will open in the spring, and BC Culture Days will announce registration dates and deadlines via their newsletter in mid-May.
