The BC Wildfire Service’s new incident management team (IMT) for the Baezaeko Fire Complex is hosting a community meeting tomorrow, Wednesday Aug. 22, at 6 p.m. at the Nazko Valley Community Centre at 9560 Nazko Road.

IMT fire information officer Rosalie MacAuley says BC Wildfire Service will be there, along with representatives from the Cariboo Regional District, and they are expecting local RCMP to also be in attendance.

The meeting will include an update on fires in the Baezaeko Complex – including Narcosli Creek, Blackwater River, North Baezaeko and Shag Creek – as well as a question and answer period.

“Our operations chief will give an update and [the IMT commander] will give a general overview,” says MacAuley.

MacAuley says that the occurrence of future meetings will depend on how the fires change, but she says the need for more meetings is likely.

“If there is a desire for a community meeting closer to Quesnel, we’ll definitely have one,” she says.

MacAuley says tomorrow night’s meeting will also be a chance for locals to meet the staff working at the IMT site at Sylvia’s Cafe on Nazko Road.

“That’s always a good thing, especially for folks we talk to one the phone; it’s nice to put a face to the voice.”
