If you’re in Quesnel you’ll want to keep your eyes open for sightings of Billy Barker.
The Billy Barker Days Festival is returning July 14-17 after a two-year suspension.
Nadine Guthrie was all smiles Wednesday afternoon at the Billy Barker Days headquarters that opened Tuesday, May 3, near LeBourdais Park.
She moved to Quesnel from the Lower Mainland last year and is thrilled to work as office manager over the next three months inside the small yellow building beside the Quesnel and District Museum and Archives.
“We’re very excited to have Nadine,” said Janice McLean, president of the Billy Barker Days Society. “She comes with a lot of experience and a lot of new fresh ideas for us, so we’re looking forward to putting that all to work.”
Guthrie said she has previously helped with the Nakusp Music Fest.

This year’s Billy Barker Days Festival lineup is set to feature a seniors and kids day, a midway by Shooting Star Amusements, a downtown parade, and a laser show. Musical entertainment will also be available by numerous artists such as Interstellar Jays, Darby Mills, Speed Control, and Ben Klick.
“We weren’t sure how the finances would be because businesses were hit hard, but they have come through for us and they’re very excited,” said Billy Barker Days Society secretary Elaine Kopetski. “The business community has been very supportive, and we thank them very much because we need them.”
Souvenirs and Billy Buttons will be available in the coming days.
McLean said the society could always use volunteers.
“Our group has dwindled over the last two years with no festival, so we could definitely use more people to come forward and join the society and become members and help us put it on,” she said. “We also always need volunteers during the festival to help with specific events and things to make it all happen.”
