A false bomb threat brought RCMP and firefighters to a local school, Tuesday.

The report of an explosive devise was called in at about 10:45 a.m., said Quesnel RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Clay Kronebusch, bringing the authorities to McNaughton Centre located at 241 Kinchant Street.

“School staff followed safety protocols and quickly evacuated the school for the safety of the students and staff, while police investigated the report with the assistance of the Quesnel Fire Department,” Kronebusch said. “Investigation into the incident determined that there was no explosive device in the school.”

In a Valentine’s Day act of love for the students and staff cast out into the street during the investigation period, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 94 called everyone in from outside, since they were located only half a block away.

“Thanks to the staff of the school for ensuring all the students were safe,” said Kronebusch. “We would also like to thank the staff of the Royal Canadian Legion who assisted with providing students with a safe location while police investigated.”

The incident is not over, as far as the police are concerned. False reports of an explosive devise are concerning for a number of reasons, so an investigation will be carried out to determine the origins and motives behind the threat.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211.
