PHOTOS: Fire destroys mobile home in Quesnel

The homeowner was injured

Update (Saturday, Oct. 1, 12:30 p.m.): The owner of a mobile home was sent to hospital with burns after a fire broke out in West Quesnel late Friday afternoon, Sept. 30.

The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department (QVFD) responded to the blaze at 654 North Fraser Drive shortly after 3 p.m.

A portable water bladder used in areas with no fire hydrant protection was set up with the Bouchie Lake Volunteer Fire Department helping shuttle water to the scene.

Quesnel Fire Chief Ron Richert confirmed the mobile home was a complete loss, with the neighbouring property sustaining substantial damage.

Firefighters remained on the scene until approximately 7 p.m. knocking down the fire.

The cause remains under investigation.

Previous (Friday, Sept. 30, 3:40 p.m.): Emergency crews are responding to a structure fire at Bartels Mobile Home Park in Quesnel Friday afternoon.

Members of the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department are battling the blaze, which broke out shortly after 3 p.m. on North Fraser Drive. The Bouchie Lake Volunteer Fire Department is also assisting.

“It’s scary,” said Patty Ryde as she stood outside watching the unfolding scene from her property.

Many park residents also gathered outside to observe.

Ryde said she heard loud bangs and saw the fire quickly spread engulfing the home.

Nearby trees also caught on fire, and a neighbouring home has been damaged.
