Big Lake resident Bee Hooker was honoured with King Charles III Coronation Medal on Sept. 8.

Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes went to Big Lake to present the medal to Hooker, who she called a "local institution, a community historian, a mentor and unquestionably a leader."

She said Hooker has volunteered innumerable hours over the years building infrastructure, helping organize events and as president of the community association.

"Bee is the go-to person for everything from helping pull a neighbour’s vehicle out of a snowy ditch to negotiating large contracts on behalf of the community,” said Oakes.

Only 30,000 King Charles III Coronation Medals were awarded across Canada, with 4,000 of those being reserved for members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Oakes said it was fitting to present Hooker with the medal on the second anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
