Projected rainfall and cloudy conditions are expected to qualm the growing wildfires in B.C.’s Cariboo region.
On Tuesday (May 23), the Cariboo area rescinded the evacuation alert that impacted hundreds in the Cariboo region. Rainy conditions are expected to continue throughout the day helping to control some of the fire behaviour for active wildfires.
An evacuation alert was issued for 100 Mile House, District of Wells, City of Quesnel, and the city of Williams Lake last week.
On Wednesday, cloudier conditions can be expected, with skies clearing towards the afternoon and evening hours, officials said.Near the end of the week an upper ridge will form, causing for drier and warmer conditions.
Since April 1, more than 220 wildfires have burned more than 135,000 hectares of land. Of these fires, 85 per cent were human-caused and were preventable, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
There are currently 82 total active wildfires burning in the the province, 12 in the Cariboo Region, and six of which are located centrally.
The Quesnel zone currently has four active wildfires, two that are classified as ‘being held’ and two that are reported to ‘be out of control.’
There are two active wildfires south of 100 Mile House that have been classified as ‘being held’, the largest being Emerald Lake. The Chilcotin Zone’s Pelican Lake fire is now under control.
